Membership meetings are held monthly, usually on the last Wednesday, from 10am-noon at the Purcellville Train Station. A Zoom connection is usually available. Meeting agendas are sent to members ahead of time, and generally begin with a brief business meeting, followed by show and tell, and a program of general fiber interest. Monthly program topics are described on the Fiber Guild’s Calendar.
Our monthly programs cover a wide range of topics, from hands-on crafts to talks by nationally recognized experts. Many of our programs are led by Guild Members, from Book Talk discussing books about the fiber arts, to Guild Member Textile Treasures, a showcase of favorite objects from member collections. Dye Day, held every summer, is an opportunity to experiment with dye techniques, and our December Holiday Gathering and the Year-End Party in May are times for fellowship and fun.
We have also learned about fiber arts history and traditions from around the world:
- Felt: The Marvelous Mystery with a Very Deep HIstory, by Deb Robson of The Independent Stitch
- The Surrender Flag, a discussion of Sonia Clark’s art installation by Richmond Weaver’s Guild President Patty Franz
- Textile Traditions of the Peruvian Highlands, by Jennifer Moore from Andean Textile Arts
- Thai and Laotian Textiles, by Susan McCauley of Mekong River Textiles
